Wanchai District - The Blue House / Favourite image no. 1

This is not the ORIGINAL BLUE HOUSE which was built in the mid 1920's and has always been a celebrated link to old Hong Kong Culture...no, this is a rather spiffy make over on the orders of the Hong Kong Government.

It is the recipient of the Award of Excellence in the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation 2017 which I am betting was initiated by the Hong Kong Tourism Board so they can bask in the glory of such an important award.

I am in two minds when it comes to the renovation, I have to say that prior to the work, the Blue House was very, very shoddy and decrepit which as far as I was concerned is / was entirely the point! however as you can see from the image it now looks very nice (or bland!) but certainly it attracts a lot more visitors.

You can request a visit to see the Blue House on one of my private tours of Hong Kong.

ps. if you go to my Blue House album by clicking the link below you will how it looked before the makeover.

The moody Pak Tai Temple in Wanchai / Favourite image no. 2

This image is one of my favourites.

This is a deity in the Temple and I was lucky that I have a decent camera and the lighting was just so. I like the Pak Tai Temple in Wanchai because it does not get many visitors, it is a bit decrepit, it is old, you can buy some great trinkets, the swirling incense smoke adds to the atmosphere and it has a very friendly cat..... and did I mention that every now and then a large tree comes crashing through the roof.

Remember to look at the huge trees on the Temple grounds, they are simply amazing.

Well worth a visit on one of my private walking tours of Hong Kong.

The miserable life of a chicken - Wanchai wet market / Favourite image no. 3

To be honest I have never given much thought to "the life of a chicken" but when I go to the Wanchai wet market and see this, I give it some thought, the conclusion that I reach is that it must be a very short lived miserable existence, you spend most of your life caged, then you end up in a shop where you spend most of the day watching your mates get their throats cut with a huge meat cleaver and then have all of their blood drained, feathers plucked, guts removed and a quick bath to make you look healthy...

....and the it's your turn, an old biddy of 90 negotiates with the staff, both of them spit out of gobs of green gooey snot on the floor whilst cursing in the most colourful language possible in a very loud voice and then done, sold to the old biddy for HK$180 (US$23) because the chicken has reached the ripe old age of 90 days old thus reaching optimum age to get the optimum price for the shop owner.... and yes, note the lucky number pricing.

You can of course ask me to avoid seeing this drama playing out on one of my private tours of Hong Kong.

ps. I like my chicken white, boneless, thinly sliced and neatly packaged from Marks and Spencer.

Oh my golly gosh, the simply amazing Pagani Zonda Absolute - this is a custom made car and is rumoured to be the only one of it's kind in the world and it is in Hong Kong!... oh... and yes, this is my picture, talk about being in the right place at the right time.
